The FITA QA Card
Many professional trades are covered by industry standards to ensure that work is completed safely and to a high standard.
For gas fitters there is the Gas Safe register and for electricians there is the NICEIC.
Now FITA, the Flooring Industry Training Association, has joined together with leading manufacturers to develop the flooring industry equivalent of an endorsed accreditation, the FITA Commercial Quality Flooring Accreditation.
Clients demand that professionals are both qualified and assessed on a regular basis to keep their skills level high.
The FITA QA Card goes beyond NVQ and CSCS cards contributing towards continual professional development (CPD).
Working in commercial environments is demanding and conditions are often less than perfect, keeping up to date with new techniques, materials and tools is imperative.
The Contract Flooring Association (CFA) website holds the details of contractors that use QA fitters.
The FITA website holds details of QA fitters to enable clients to verify fitters who hold the FITA QA Card.
What will the FITA QA Card do?
The FITA QA Card will:
- Provide ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
- Provide an independent industry accreditation
- Provide risk reassurance for the client
- Keep floor fitters up to date with industry developments
Delivering the accreditation
The FITA QA Card has been broken down in to a series of modules to ensure that specific competencies can be easily measured and assessed. There is both a practical and a theory element to each module, to ensure thorough high quality assessment. One day assessments are held in the following subjects:
- Subfloor Preparation*
- Vinyl Tile
- Carpet Tile
- Resilient Sheet
- Adhered Carpet
- Floating Timber
- Wood Sanding and Finishing
On successfully completing the assessment a personalised QA FITA Card indicating which modules you have passed will be issued.
*FITA recommends that all fitters complete the subfloor preparation module. Refresher courses for all competencies, as part of your CPD, will be required after 5 years.
